Four legged friends come too!

30 September 2015

There's no need to leave your four legged friends behind when you come away with Harrogate Holidays!  We're all animal lovers in the office, so we quite understand that lots of our guests want to bring their pets (especially dogs - although we have had a parrot and an owl!) with them.

We know that a dog is man's best friend, but it can be difficult knowing what to do with them when you go on holiday.  At Harrogate Holidays we have 42 self catering properties of all shapes and size which welcome pets.

Stay in the town ....... or the country!  Not only is there lots of beautiful rolling countryside around Harrogate - just try the Crimple Valley, Nidderdale, Wharfedale and beyond - but there are also 200 acres of open parkland known as the Stray as well as the famous Valley Gardens right in the centre of town.

We have plenty of stunning walking scenery and so we have put together a few routes which you are sure to enjoy.

Almscliffe Cragg just to the south of Harrogate is a spectacular rock outcrop - just a quick scramble to the top from which you can see for miles - the Yorkshire Wolds to the east, Wharfedale to the north and Otley Chevin to the South.  We have a number of properties just on the doorstep in the village of Huby!

The Harrogate Ringway is also a favourite - a path which encircles all of the town, taking in the medieval market town of Knaresborough (with many dog friendly pubs), past the world famous RHS Garden Harlow Carr and the dramatic wooded river cliff of Birk Crag.

The Nidderdale Way takes in the very best of the valley offering dramatic upper moorland and lush rolling river banks - 53 miles in total, but can be approached in sections. Click here to view our Nidderdale properties.

The Nidd Gorge, just outside Knaresborough, offers delightful walking in dramatic wooded river scenery.

If all that walking works up an appetite - where to eat where pets are welcome?  Fear not - we've done the homework for you and have found a number of great places to eat and drink where your four legged friend can come too!

The Old Bell Tavern and the Swan on the Stray are great real ale pubs in Harrogate town where dogs are welcome, whilst Filmore and Union is a wonderful independent cafe & coffee shop offering delicious home prepared food all day - all welcoming canine friends!

The historic village of Ripley and medieval Knaresborough (both complete with their own castles) also have great food and watering holes where dogs are received with open arms!  Blind Jack's is a gem of a pub on the market square in Knaresborough offering a traditional welcome, whilst the Boar's Head occupies a picturesque spot next to Ripley castle and is a bit of a foodies favourite!  On the south side of Harrogate and just a short walk from Almscliffe Cragg (see above) is the Square and Compass which has made a name for itself since opening in 2013 for serving delicious contemporary food all day.

If you fancy blowing away the cobwebs and venturing a bit further afield into our glorious countryside - you and your dog will receive a warm welcome at the Sun Inn at Norwood (great Sunday lunch) and the Wellington Inn at Darley - both with wonderful walking throughout Nidderdale and the Washburn valley from the door!

So if you are planning a holiday with your pooch - Harrogate Holidays has lots to offer!  Call us on 01423 523333 or search our website here for a wide range of pet friendly self catering accommodation in and around Harrogate - we are here to help!
