Set in the grounds of a stunning manor house in a pretty village close to York, this handsome, charming and romantic cottage makes a lovely retreat for a couple seeking to explore this beautiful area.

The picturesque village of Holtby is set in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds and makes a lovely base for exploring North Yorkshire. The vibrant and historic city of York (6 miles) is known for its quaint cobbled streets, fascinating museums and historic buildings. Attractions include York Minster, The Shambles, Jorvik and Castle Museum. Outside the city there are miles of beautiful walks and cycle trails to enjoy with stunning scenery and plenty of pubs and restaurants in the surrounding towns and villages including Flaxton and Sutton-on-the-Forest (both 9 miles). Heading north, you can visit Castle Howard (12 miles) and Kirkham Abbey (10 miles) which are in the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

On arriving at this delightful reverse-level bolthole, head up to the first floor where you will find the bright, spacious and tastefully furnished open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. The light-filled lounge is a cosy space to relax in, complete with Smart TV and plenty of comfortable seating. A Juliet balcony offers charming views out across the gardens of the manor house. There's also a welcoming and ideally situated dining area, and the stylish bespoke kitchen features a marble worktop and is fully equipped with everything you may need to prepare a lovely romantic meal. Returning to the ground floor you will find the generous bedroom which features oak floorboards and a striking Four-poster bed. There is also an en-suite shower room with a shower, heated floors and WC.

Stepping outside you can relax in the completely private patio area which has garden furniture and is perfect for enjoying a drink in the evening. You can also explore the grounds of the manor house, including a large walled garden and an orchard, with pigs and chickens also on-site.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

This property is just what we needed for a good holiday base camp. It is very comfortable and the host was very easy to contact and to answer any of our questions. We would definitely recommend this property fir a very relaxing holiday.

Perfect location, close to York with all its attractions, yet still in the countryside with easy access to other locations in Yorkshire. Really comfortable, hosts are really friendly & helpful, with welcome pack really appreciated. Difficult to fault really.

A lovely apartment with lots of nice touches. Nice friendly welcome and lovely welcome pack (particularly liked the homemade red gooseberry jelly!). Ideally situated in a quiet village with easy access to several main routes.

We had a 4 night stay at Willoughby's loft. The cottage was clean, bright and airy. We had everything we needed. It is fully equipped and Michelle's welcome pack including homemade jam and a cake was such a lovely touch. The location was ideal, we had some beautiful walks with our young puppy. Lovely cottage with stunning gardens. Very comfortable accommodation with great facilities for eating, relaxing and gaining a well earned rest. Very close to York and easily accessible by car or via the park and ride. We would definitely use this accommodation again, the entire booking process was simple from beginning to end

Loved our stay at Willoughbys Loft, spacious modern apartment in lovely peaceful grounds. Not much in Holtby itself but if you have a car some really good days out in York, the Yorkshire Moors and some lovely coastal towns.

This is a lovely quiet and peaceful location in a very small village which is very relaxing. You definitely need a car to fully appreciate the local community and aid access to York and other villages. Michelle provides beverages , milk , wine and her own homemade jam and lemon cake which is delicious. The cottage was very basic, no cooker apart from a convection microwave with no instructions not ideal. No wardrobe to hang clothes up. The property also benefitted of having a garden which was why I chose the property so that we could just let our dog out before we go to bed this wasnt possible as we had a gate going across our small patio area wiRead moreth table and chairs, although told later in the week that it could be opened and that the dog could go into garden. Lovely, cosy accommodation with everything you need. York city only 15 mins drive away. Nice couple of pubs within few minutes drive, as well as Indian and Chinese takeaways, however youll need to be prepared to collect your food as they will not deliver! If you want a quiet cosy retreat but close to the city, you wont find much better than this. MRead moreichelle is a great host and cant do enough for you. Thanks for a lovely break. Hide

Harrogate is a thriving, historic town at the heart of North Yorkshire and at the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. This fantastic town is a hit with culturists, historians and holidaymakers alike. Dubbed ‘The English Spa’ in 1596, the town boasts spa water high in iron, sulphur and salt. The Royal Pump Room is still open today as a museum, showcasing the original equipment that was used in its heyday. The Montpellier Quarter also offers exclusive shops and a huge range of antique dealers, ideal for hunting out a unique bargain. This fashionable spa town also plays host to many Michelin-starred restaurants too.
