This ground-floor apartment sits 2 miles from the centre of the walled city of York and is perfect for couples wanting to explore the city and surrounding countryside.  The city is the capital of Yorkshire and offers an eclectic mix of pubs, restaurants, shops, tearooms, the infamous Minster and cobbled streets leading to many historical monuments. The apartment is very conveniently situated for bus travel into York and indeed for longer bus journeys to Scarborough and beyond. The Park and Ride is also not far away. The accommodation is very clean and well appointed and equipped. Although the property is located on a busy main road out of York the lounge/ diner/ kitchen is double glazed and tRead morehe bedroom on the back of the property is quiet with plenty of storage space. We would certainly recommend. Hide

This neat ground floor apartment is located opposite York Racecourse. This was great for running (Park Run Saturdays), walking and accessing cycling routes in and around York. There are pubs nearby that serve decent food and York centre is only a short hop on the bus (regular services) or cycle ride away. The rooms are clean and neat and everythingRead more that we needed was there. We did cook some meals and found this easy to do. We had an enjoyable week and would happily rebook this apartment. We had a fantastic stay at The Shambles. It's a really cozy cottage; well equipped (inc tea and coffee). Great location - we walked into the city centre each day, which took about 30 minutes at a comfortable pace. There is a pub right next door which does good food. Definitely recommend a stay here.

Although the cottage is on the ground floor, there are four steps to enter the building. There is no handrail to give assistance. Once in the apartment there is a change of level from the entry hall to the bedroom, living and kitchen areas. This should be made clear for those with mobility difficulties.

Harrogate is a thriving, historic town at the heart of North Yorkshire and at the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. This fantastic town is a hit with culturists, historians and holidaymakers alike. Dubbed ‘The English Spa’ in 1596, the town boasts spa water high in iron, sulphur and salt. The Royal Pump Room is still open today as a museum, showcasing the original equipment that was used in its heyday. Two other major draws to the town are the Harrogate Convention Centre and the Great Yorkshire Showground. The former is a multi-purpose venue large enough to house huge conventions and business conferences. Many of the events are fan-based like the Lego-themed attractions and comic-cons. The latter is an outdoor venue that hosts even large events and shows, namely the agricultural Great Yorkshire Show.

Fancy a day of walking? Head to the Valley Gardens, home to a multitude of landscaped gardens that embrace different styles and influence. For further horticultural foray, head to the RHS Garden, Harlow Carr. The stunning gardens provide a leafy retreat where you can wander through woodland and alongside waterways.

The town centre is home to an array of boutique fashion shops, as well as high street favourites in and around the Victoria Shopping Centre. The Montpellier Quarter also offers exclusive shops and a huge range of antique dealers, ideal for hunting out a unique bargain. This fashionable spa town also plays host to many Michelin-starred restaurants too.
