Located in a lovely village, only 10 minutes from Harrogate Centre. There is a great pub in the village although it is not a safe walk because of the dark, narrow country roads. The cottage itself is located next to the owners house in beautiful, extensive gardens, and we loved watching the birds feed. It was only too easy to imagine the well-furniRead moreshed setting in summer. Immaculately presented, comfortably furnished, cosy, and it provided everything you could conceivably need, from kitchen implements to music.. We stayed over Christmas and they even supplied a very pretty tree! The second bedroom is rather small but our young adult children were quite happy with it. The owner was discreetly attentive. Should we return to the area, we would really hope to stay there again. Its simply up with the best self-catering accommodation we have experienced. Hide

Swallow Cottage is exceptional and even better than the photos. Every aspect of the accommodation, from fittings and furnishings to location, is stunning. The attention to detail bespeaks a desire to provide every comfort, necessity and pleasure a guest may need, such as really comfortable beds, big, thick towels, ample storage space and coat hangeRead morers, excellent lighting, highly efficient heating and superbly provisioned kitchen (which even provided a picnic hamper!) The pretty little garden, set amidst extensive fields and farmland, would be wonderful to sit out in in summer, and even in winter provided a magnificent setting, with a very active bird feeder providing daily viewing. We stayed over Christmas, and arrived to find the cottage toasty warm, with a pretty Christmas tree and a Christmas cake on table. Our host, Ian, greeted us and was the perfect host, on hand if needed but entirely unobtrusive. We have rented very many holiday homes around the world, and this is up with the best. Hide

Swallows Cottage in Beckwithshaw was a wonderfully equipped, excellently decorated and very comfortable holiday cottage. There was all the equipment we needed and more besides, games, DVD's books - even flasks and containers to use if we'd wanted to take a picnic out. Harrogate is a thriving, historic town at the heart of North Yorkshire and at the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. This fantastic town is a hit with culturists, historians and holidaymakers alike. Dubbed ‘The English Spa’ in 1596, the town boasts spa water high in iron, sulphur and salt. The Royal Pump Room is still open today as a museum, showcasing the original equipment that was used in its heyday. Two other major draws to the town are the Harrogate Convention Centre and the Great Yorkshire Showground. The former is a multi-purpose venue large enough to house huge conventions and business conferences. Many of the events are fan-based like the Lego-themed attractions and comic-cons. The latter is an outdoor venue that hosts even large events and shows, namely the agricultural Great Yorkshire Show.

Fancy a day of walking? Head to the Valley Gardens, home to a multitude of landscaped gardens that embrace different styles and influence. For further horticultural foray, head to the RHS Garden, Harlow Carr. The stunning gardens provide a leafy retreat where you can wander through woodland and alongside waterways.

The town centre is home to an array of boutique fashion shops, as well as high street favourites in and around the Victoria Shopping Centre. The Montpellier Quarter also offers exclusive shops and a huge range of antique dealers, ideal for hunting out a unique bargain. This fashionable spa town also plays host to many Michelin-starred restaurants too.
