Ripon Cottages & Accommodation

Ripon is a cathedral city located in North Yorkshire and close to many of the region’s most popular attractions.  It’s ideal for a holiday and makes a really good base for discovering Yorkshire.

Stay in a Grade 2 listed Hall or a beautiful farm cottage

We have a great selection of accommodation on offer in Ripon and the surrounding area, from holiday cottages in the countryside to loft apartments in the city centre.

For a break to remember, stay in the grounds of the Grade 2 listed Hollins Hall at the Gardener’s Cottage or The Chauffer’s Loft, just a couple miles from Ripon.  If you’re looking for somewhere more central, then the thoughtfully converted chapel at St Wilfrid’s Loft is perfect for a stay in the historic centre of Ripon.  Finally, Duke’s Place Cottages, which consist of an old farm house with four beautifully converted cottages are within easy reach of Ripon, particularly Fountains Abbey.

Things to do in and around Ripon – ‘Experience historic North Yorkshire’

A city due to its beautiful cathedral, Ripon can be best described as a market town and there’s plenty to fill a day or two there. The cathedral has history dating back to the 7th century, and a visit down to the crypt is highly recommended.

Within the town there’s the Ripon Workhouse Museum, complete with kitchen garden to visit and the Spa Gardens are a pleasant place to while away an hour or two. If the weather is bad (or in the evening) a visit to The Curzon independent cinema is a real treat, which also shows special screenings from the National Theatre.

Enjoy a range of great days out – from Monasteries to Theme Parks!

We think that the very best reason to base yourself in Ripon is the close proximity to some of the best days out in Yorkshire.

Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal Water Park, owned and managed by the National Trust (also free for members, with an agreement with English Heritage, although please check before travelling) feature beautiful historic ruins which appeal to all ages.  For walking, there are excellent footpaths around and lovely cafés at either end of the park, but it’s a great place to take a picnic too with a super adventure playground to burn off excess energy, located just 3.5miles from Ripon.

To the other side of Ripon is the fantastic Newby Hall, again if history is your thing you will enjoy this beautiful Adam House and gardens. If you are travelling with children they will love the large playground, with water fountains and mini train (a towel and spare clothes might be a handy addition as our children can’t resist running through the fountains fully clothed!)

Adrenalin junkies will love Lightwater Valley, a theme park open from the Easter Holidays which it boasts Europe’s longest roller coaster, and we’d recommend booking your tickets online for a saving.

Finally, if there’s a “meet on” the charming Ripon Race Course is certainly worth a visit, called the garden racecourse (we think it’s a bit like being on the set of Heartbeat!).

Why choose a Ripon Cottage?

For stunning countryside, a quaint market town and proximity to some of the very best of Yorkshire’s attractions - Ripon is a great choice!

Ripon Cathedral has a history stretching back almost fourteen centuries. Throughout this time it has offered an unbroken tradition of witness to the Christian faith, both in the city of Ripon and across North Yorkshire. Ripon Cathedral was founded by St Wilfrid, who brought craftsmen from the continent to build a new stone church dedicated to St Peter, in 672AD.

The only part of Wilfrid’s church to survive is the ancient Saxon crypt which is arguably the oldest church building in England to have remained in continuous use. The Cathedral is a vibrant parish church at the heart of its local community and mother church to the region.
