Ripon, North Yorkshire, dates from the seventh century and has evolved into an English city of charm and character.
One of England's smallest cities, Ripon is known for its historic buildings and beautiful Cathedral as well as traditional customs such as "setting the watch". This thousand year old ceremony takes place nightly at 9:00 p.m. with the blowing of the horn in Ripon Market Place.
Today Ripon retains its importance as a shopping and tourist centre, attracting visitors to its Minster, its impressive market place and the many attractions in the surrounding area, including Fountains Abbey and Newby Hall.
