Shire is the larger, and more family-orientated, of the two new "cottages" now housed within the South-facing, 16th Century, Grade 11 Listed Stable Block of The Royal Oak after a three year restoration. (The 2nd being Dray, ref 202.)
Hidden away in the secluded, award-winning, cobbled courtyard behind the historic and haunted Royal Oak, in the oldest part of Knaresborough, it offers surprising tranquility and privacy whilst being just minutes away from the major attractions of this increasingly popular, friendly tourist centre.
Since its opening in May 2009 the cottage has enjoyed very high occupancy rates whilst gaining rave reviews from guests who have consistently quality rated it at 9.5/10 or above.

Entrance leading to spacious lounge with travertine flooring, sofa bed settee, and feature living fire. Large, bright, free-standing kitchen, cum dining room, with seating for 6-8 guests. Stairs from lounge up to two, airy, beamed bedrooms. Bedroom 1 has a large feature window, formerly the Stable hay loft door, king-size zip and link beds with en-suite bathroom, double-ended bath with hand-held shower, toilet and basin. Bedroom 2, king-size zip and link, en-suite walk-in power shower cubicle, toilet and basin. Studio-style Bedroom 3, with zip and link king-size bed, has its own open plan staircase, accessed from the lounge above the fully tiled wet room with 6-seater hot tub, walk-in shower, toilet & basin. Travertine flooring throughout.
